Season 2 was a strong performer. It held the No. 1 spot on Netflix's English TV list for two weeks and drew 18 million views in its first 11 days, according to Netflix's Tudum. Season 1 reached the Top 10 in 89 countries and spent eight weeks there.
What Erin Foster said about season 4
Foster, who created the show and serves as an executive producer, told Parade she has "more story to tell," as quoted by Deadline and People.
"There's those next steps as people who are not in their 20s, getting married and you're starting off already kind of behind everyone else," she said. "I experienced that when I got married, I was 37, and it's a different experience. So, yeah, I do think that there's more story to tell."
She added a note of caution: "But I'm also someone who doesn't get too attached to the outcome and is sort of fluid about allowing sort of the market to tell us what they want from us. I never want to have a show that goes on longer than people want to see it. I'd rather people want more than want less."
Foster also told Decider that the team will "wait for the call, and we're ready to go if they want us," People reported. According to Just Jared, she told Decider she would want to finally introduce Morgan's ex-husband, who has been mentioned but never seen, if there is a fourth season. She also said each season was written so its ending could work as a season finale or a series finale.
How season 3 ends (spoilers)
Season 3 shows Joanne and Noah moving in together and enjoying a more settled relationship. "We didn't have to do any more 'Will they, won't they?'" co-showrunner Jenni Konner told Tudum.
The finale takes the families to Malibu, where a trip meant to complete Joanne's conversion ends in a wedding, according to Netflix's finale explainer:
- Joanne and Noah marry. After Joanne's mikvah, Noah asks Rabbi Eden (Sarah Silverman) to marry them on the beach. "They're married," Foster told Tudum. Konner added that they are married "in the eyes of God, but not in the eyes of anyone else yet."
- Morgan and Sasha. Esther (Jackie Tohn) learns that her estranged husband Sasha (Timothy Simons) slept with Joanne's sister, Morgan (Justine Lupe), on a trip to New York. Morgan, in turn, learns that Sasha hooked up with Esther the day before.
- The families. Both sets of parents are left bickering back at the Malibu house, unaware of the wedding.
The final scene is set to "My Kinda Love" by Stella Lefty and Bailey Zimmerman.
The season 3 cast
Netflix says Bell, Brody, Lupe, Simons and Tohn return, joined by Andrew Rannells, Keyla Monterroso Mejia and Sarah Silverman in major recurring roles. Silverman plays Rabbi Eden, who leads Joanne's conversion class, and Rannells plays Sebastian, an opinionated classmate. Guest stars include Avan Jogia, Poorna Jagannathan, Sadie Sandler, Stephanie Koenig and Steven Weber, and Foster makes a cameo. The showrunners are Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan, and the series is produced by 20th Television.
Where to watch
All three seasons of Nobody Wants This are streaming on Netflix, Just Jared noted. Season 3's soundtrack includes songs by Miley Cyrus, J Balvin, Ellie Goulding, and Stella Lefty and Bailey Zimmerman, according to Tudum. If you are catching up, season 2 ends with Joanne deciding to convert and Noah deciding he wants to be with her either way, which sets up season 3's more settled start.
What's next
- Viewing numbers. Netflix publishes weekly Top 10 data, and the show's first-week figures for season 3 will be an early signal.
- A renewal decision. If Netflix follows the pattern of the past two seasons, a decision could come in early November, but that is not guaranteed. What's on Netflix noted that a two-week gap would point to around Nov. 5.
- Possible storylines. Foster's comments point to Joanne and Noah as newlyweds, the fallout of their secret wedding and the Morgan and Sasha storyline.
The bottom line
Nobody Wants This season 3 ends with a wedding, but its future is still open: no season 4 renewal yet, and a creator who says she is ready if Netflix calls. For more entertainment news, see our coverage of Clayface's box office opening and the deaths of Eric Bauza and Walter Koenig.
