What happened to Christian Watson?
Watson broke a rib but returned to the same game after a round trip to the hospital. It was the moment most people were searching about.
Watson already had six catches for 100 yards when he caught a 53-yard pass from Love with 9:11 left in the second quarter, ESPN reported. He landed hard, struggled to breathe and walked off on his own, but he was coughing up blood on the sideline, so team doctors sent him for a CT scan. ESPN said he climbed into the ambulance himself, still in full pads, a little before 8:30 p.m. local time, and was taken to St. Vincent Hospital, about 3.9 miles from Lambeau Field.
An X-ray showed a broken rib. The CT scan and bloodwork showed no internal bleeding, so he was cleared to return, according to Packers.com. TV cameras followed him as he jumped out of the ambulance and ran back down the tunnel, and he reentered the game with 4:01 left in the third quarter.
"I felt like I was watching WWE Smackdown vs. Raw or something, seeing the cameras on me when I was coming out of the ambulance," Watson said, per Packers.com. "Before I even left (the hospital), I wanted to get back out there."
Wearing a molded pad around his ribs, Watson caught two more passes, including a 7-yard catch on third-and-2 late in the fourth quarter that forced Carolina to burn its last timeout. Packers.com said the eight catches were a career high, and that he is the first Packers player since Jordy Nelson in 2013 with at least 40 catches, 700 receiving yards, six receiving touchdowns and a 16.5-yard average through eight games.
Coach Matt LaFleur called the return remarkable. "The grit to go back in the game, he had a heck of a night," he said, per Packers.com. Several Packers told reporters they could not remember a player leaving in an ambulance and returning to the same game, ESPN reported.
Watson's status for Week 9
The team had not announced any change to Watson's status as of Friday morning. The schedule helps: Green Bay does not play again until Sunday, Nov. 8, giving him 10 days to heal, as CBS Sports noted. Rib injuries can be painful for receivers, so watch the Packers' injury reports next week.
Carolina had its own injury on the same play. Panthers cornerback Will Lee hurt his hamstring diving to make the tackle and was carted to the locker room, the Associated Press reported.
Why was the game delayed? A drone over Lambeau
With Green Bay facing third-and-1 inside the Carolina 10 in the third quarter, referee Scott Novak stopped play because of a drone near the stadium, USA Today reported. Both teams went to their sidelines for a few minutes until the Amazon Prime Video broadcast said the drone had left. On the next play, Love threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to Jacobs for a 27-10 lead.
Flying a drone near an NFL game is not just a nuisance. Under Federal Aviation Administration rules, drones are banned within 3 nautical miles of stadiums with 30,000 or more seats during NFL, MLB, NCAA Division I football and major auto racing events, from one hour before the event until one hour after. As of Friday morning, no one had said who flew the drone.
Green Bay's pass rush had six sacks
The Packers' defense was the other headline. Green Bay sacked Young six times and hit him nine times, and he was pressured on 48.9% of his dropbacks, according to NFL Next Gen Stats data cited by ESPN. Linebacker Ty'Ron Hopper had a sack and an interception, and Dani Dennis-Sutton sacked Young on the final drive.
Carolina was missing key linemen. Right tackle Taylor Moton is out for the season with a fibula and ankle injury, and left guard Damien Lewis was inactive, Panthers.com reported. Young also played with a brace on his left knee, but he said afterward, "I'm fine. Everyone's dealing with something at this point."
The AP noted that Green Bay has not allowed any of its last five opponents to score more than 20 points.
What still worries the Packers
The win was not clean. The AP counted three Green Bay turnovers, including the opening-kickoff fumble and a fourth-quarter Love interception. The running game also stalled. Packers.com said that outside of an 18-yard end-around by Savion Williams, the team ran for 48 yards on 25 carries, which made it hard to close out the game in the fourth quarter.
The Brewers brought the World Series trophy to Lambeau
One day after the Milwaukee Brewers clinched their first championship, a group of players carried the Commissioner's Trophy onto the field after the first quarter, MLB.com reported. Brandon Woodruff led the group, and outfielder Sal Frelick did a Lambeau Leap into the stands. Read our recap of how the Brewers won the World Series.

The bottom line
The Packers got a needed bounce-back win after a 20-17 loss at Detroit, thanks to Love's three touchdown passes, a six-sack defense and a Christian Watson performance that included a hospital trip in the middle of it. The open questions are Watson's rib and a running game that averaged under 2 yards per carry.
