How the Dream forced the first Game 7 in WNBA Finals history
Atlanta trailed 3-2 and faced elimination at home, and it answered with its best start of the series. The Dream outscored Golden State 32-15 in the first quarter while making six 3-pointers, the first time the Valkyries had allowed a 30-point first quarter in franchise history, ESPN reported. Atlanta led by more than 20 points in the first half, then held off a late Golden State rally, according to the Associated Press recap in the Los Angeles Times.
Game 6 standouts
- Allisha Gray, Dream: 23 points on 8-of-12 shooting, including 5 of 7 from 3-point range, plus two steals and three blocks. ESPN said she has been playing through finger injuries on her left hand and held the Valkyries to 2-of-17 shooting as the primary defender.
- Rhyne Howard, Dream: 21 points with four 3-pointers.
- Angel Reese, Dream: 15 points and 14 rebounds, per the AP.
- Gabby Williams, Valkyries: a game-high 26 points with three 3-pointers.
Atlanta made 13 3-pointers, tied for the most in Finals history by a team facing elimination, ESPN noted. That mattered because the Dream had scored a series-low 62 and 55 points in their Game 4 and Game 5 losses.
"Our job is not done," Reese told ESPN after the win. "We have another level that we can get to."
2026 WNBA Finals results so far
The series has swung back and forth, with each team winning three games, according to CBS Sports.
| Game | Date | Result | Series |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Sat., Oct. 17 | Valkyries 68, Dream 64 | GSV leads 1-0 |
| 2 | Mon., Oct. 19 | Dream 79, Valkyries 65 | Tied 1-1 |
| 3 | Wed., Oct. 21 | Dream 97, Valkyries 71 | ATL leads 2-1 |
| 4 | Sat., Oct. 24 | Valkyries 67, Dream 62 | Tied 2-2 |
| 5 | Mon., Oct. 26 | Valkyries 64, Dream 55 | GSV leads 3-2 |
| 6 | Thu., Oct. 29 | Dream 80, Valkyries 69 | Tied 3-3 |
| 7 | Sat., Oct. 31 | 8 p.m. ET, Chase Center | — |
Golden State is 2-1 at home in the series. Its only loss at Chase Center came in Game 2, when Reese had 30 points and 16 rebounds in a 79-65 Atlanta win. Atlanta has scored 79 or more in each of its three wins and 64 or fewer in each of its three losses, so pace and 3-point shooting are worth watching on Saturday.
Why Game 7 is historic for both teams
It is the first Game 7 in WNBA Finals history. The league switched the Finals to a best-of-seven format only in 2025, when the Las Vegas Aces swept the Phoenix Mercury in four games, USA Today noted. Before that, Finals series were best-of-five or shorter.
A first-time champion is guaranteed. The Dream joined the league as an expansion team in 2008 and reached the Finals in 2010, 2011 and 2013 without winning a title, NBC Sports said. The Valkyries are only in their second season. A Golden State win would bring a title in the franchise's second season; an Atlanta win would end an 18-season wait.
Home court favors Golden State. The Valkyries have sold out every home game in their first two seasons and averaged a league-record 18,064 fans per game in the 2026 regular season, according to The San Francisco Standard. Still, the Dream already won once in San Francisco in this series.

Why Game 6 was played at lunchtime
Game 6 tipped off at 12:30 p.m. ET on a Thursday, which drew wide criticism. Atlanta's usual playoff arena, State Farm Arena, was booked for an Atlanta Hawks game that night, and the WNBA chose to keep the game in the larger arena at an early hour, BBC Sport reported. That meant a 9:30 a.m. start for fans in California.
Sporting News reported that one reason the league did not push Game 6 to Friday was that Game 7 would then have landed on Tuesday, Nov. 3, Election Night. That is the date of the 2026 midterm elections. Because Atlanta won, Game 7 returns to prime time on Saturday.
How much are WNBA Game 7 tickets?
Demand is at a record. The cheapest resale seat was about $396 on TickPick as of Thursday evening, making it the most expensive WNBA game ever by get-in price, Yahoo Sports reported. The San Francisco Standard found courtside seats listed on Ticketmaster for more than $13,000 each and upper-level seats starting around $441 on StubHub. By contrast, some Game 6 seats in Atlanta resold for as little as $23 because of the weekday lunchtime start.
Prices change quickly, so compare official and verified resale sellers and check the total with fees before you buy.
What to watch in Game 7
- The first quarter. Reese said after Game 6 that Atlanta has won every game in which it "threw the first punch." The Valkyries' slow start in Game 6 set the tone.
- Atlanta's 3-point shooting. The Dream shot poorly in Games 4 and 5 and then hit 13 threes in Game 6. Whether that carries over on the road is the biggest swing factor.
- Gabby Williams vs. Allisha Gray. Williams has led Golden State in scoring in most games of the series, while Gray's health and defense were central to Atlanta's Game 6 win.
- The glass. Reese has posted double-digit rebounds in most of the series, and Valkyries center Kiah Stokes led Golden State on the boards in several games.
The bottom line
The 2026 WNBA Finals end Saturday, Oct. 31, at 8 p.m. ET on USA Network and Peacock, with the Dream and Valkyries meeting in the first Game 7 in league history. Atlanta has the momentum after an 80-69 Game 6 win built on 3-point shooting, while Golden State has home court in a sold-out arena. Either way, the WNBA will crown a first-time champion.
